Iron Age and Romans in the Rhenish low mountain ranges: research, teaching and monument preservation.
As
part of the project "Diachronic Landscape Archaeology in Hunsrück and
Eifel", the Institute for Prehistory and Protohistory conducts
geomagnetic surveys and drone flights in the Eifel, Hunsrück, Westerwald
and Taunus since spring 2015. These measurements are part of a
cooperation between the Institute and the General Directorate of
Cultural Heritage Rhineland-Palatinate, Directorate of State
Archaeology, Koblenz. In addition to the aspects of research and
preservation of monuments, the fieldwork serves the basic training of
students on the technical equipment indispensable in today's field
archaeology and thus represents an integral part of teaching.
