In the year 2000 most employees are working with a personal computer, with an increasing rate of workplaces being connected to the intra- and/or the internet. More and more employees are supposed to deal efficiently with the new tools and services in a working context that is getting more extensive and more complex for the communicating persons. How do organisations and individuals perceive the new technology? In what way has the coping with and the consequences of the new media a strain effect on them? How can the growing problem of information overload be reduced? Which supporting communication tools can be used against information overload an how are they evaluated by the users?
These are the questions that this project answers on the basis of five studies (one analysis of documents, two interview-studies, one online-study, one written survey) in the fields of supporting communication tools, information culture in organisations and psychological stress at the workplace due to the New Media. On this bases a training-concept for coping with the New Media is developed which can be used by organisations to train their employees.
