Bullying in the workplace is a widespread phenomenon that not only affects the victim but also has organisational and economic costs. Due to methodological deficiencies (cross-sectional research designs) it is still unclear whether bullying is caused by the personality of the victim or whether the personality of victims changes as a result of bullying. Only a longitudinal study based on personality data before the bullying event can clarify to what extent the personality of the victim actually plays a role.
