Scientific Abstract

The summer school was held in Nuremberg, Germany from Sep 29 to Oct 01, 2014. Target
groups were PhD students and Post-Docs in sociology (especially sociology of work or health),
economics, and work and organisational psychology. The mission of this summer school was to
improve the understanding of the interplay of contextual and environmental factors with health in
the workplace, to better understand the relationship between working conditions, health of
employees, and organisational success, and to develop innovative tools and strategies to
improve employees’ health at work.
In an interdisciplinary approach we looked at a multitude of health impairments in work
organisations and developed strategies to strengthen personal and organisational resources
thereby including the whole (working) lifecycle. The topics of the presentations, keynotes, and
poster sessions were complementary, though they were located at different analytical levels
(individual, management, organisation, society). Additionally, experts from practice (e.g.
organisational health management) were invited to participate in the summer school in order to
foster the exchange of ideas about practically relevant topics and the dissemination of (first)
results to practice.
