The course will provide an overview of various data collection methods in the social and behavioral sciences, which are particularly relevant for the fields of human resources, organizational behavior and consumer behavior, but also for health sciences and economic research.
The objective is to enable students to apply such methods in the context of their final thesis, i.e. to collect and/or analyze primary data on individuals, groups or organizations. For this purpose, they need a good understanding of the application of the respective methodology in the context of scientific research. At the same time, students should also gain a basic understanding of the role that the respective methods play in business and social psychological practice. Application examples from personnel and organizational psychology as well as consumer research will therefore also included.
The course will comprise eleven sessions, three on background and basics of data collection (including legal and ethical aspects) and eight sessions presenting individual data collection methods or groups of methods. Among others, participants will learn about different survey methods, psychological tests, behavioral observations, simulations, non-reactive and physiological measurement methods.
The course will be available in German as well as in English and will be used, among others, in the bachelor programs "International Business Studies" and "International Economic Studies".
