Abstract

Peritoneal metastases originating from gastrointestinal cancers are still the most powerful negative prognostic factor. Despite initial curative resection, a significant proportion of patients develop peritoneal recurrence. Additional hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy after curative resection might have the ability to reduce the incidence of local and peritoneal recurrences without significant elevation of morbidity and mortality rates.
