Abstract

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) suffer disproportionately from cardiovascular (cv) complications and specifically death from cardiac causes. Although the pathogenesis of this exceedingly high cv morbidity and mortality is not well understood, specific structural and functional alterations of the myocardium have been described which can contribute to the increased burden of cv disease in these patients. In the following some of these specific aspects will be discussed.
