Abstract

Performance Enhancement Proxies and Split TCP are commonly deployed for satellite Internet access in order to improve the performance of TCP. With QUIC and its encrypted transport layer headers, this is not possible anymore. This paper reviews the design principles of QUIC and the impact on satellite Internet access. Based on previous work, we extend the performance evaluation of QUIC over satellite Internet and show that there are performance degradations.
