Abstract

The sweeping changes in the translation profession brought about by artificial intelligence (AI) are having a profound impact on terminology science and on terminology work. Terminological units are the building elements of knowledge. The role of terminology is to help extract and transfer knowledge in the clearest possible way across languages and cultures. Like humans, machines are today both creators and consumers of knowledge. They are intelligent systems that assist humans in various language-related tasks. This paper provides some insights into current developments following the rise of AI in the field of natural language understanding. The paper shares recommendations for building terminology repositories that can be used by machines as well as by humans. This development opens up new perspectives for translators.
