Abstract

Since the presentation of the entire sequence of bovine papillomavirus 1 (BPV1) in 1982, 1 a total of 13 papillomavirus (PV) genomes have been sequenced. About one half of the sequence data are now available for easy computer access from nucleotide sequence data libraries such as Genbank 2 or EMBL. 3 The viruses presented in this chapter include human and animal PV types infecting the mucosa, such as HPV6, 4 HPV11, 5 HPV16, 68 HPV18, 9 HPV33, 10 and BPV4, 11, 12 or infecting the skin, such as HPV1, 4, 13–15 HPV5, 16 HPV8, 17 HPV9, HPV17, HPV19, HPV20, HPV25, HPV36 (partial sequences 18, 19), and CRPV. 20 Animal PVs causing fibropapillomas in ruminants, such as BPV1, 1, 4, 14, 21 BPV2, 22, 23 DPV, 24 and EEPV, 25 are also discussed.
