The inscription fragment discussed here, which was found in 2021 in the area of the ancient Ionian city of Metropolis, exemplifies how knowledge about central personalities is supplemented by epigraphic evidence. In this case, it is another record of Apollonios, son of Attalos, grandson of Andron, who – as we know from other epigraphic evidence – was a citizen of Metropolis honored many times for his services to the city since the reign of the Attalids and who died in battle against Aristonikos.
