Description / Outline

The variety of manufacturing processes is reflected in the wide range of research topics within the group manufacturing processes , highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of the research. A central focus is on the mechanical joining of dissimilar materials, with particular emphasis on the versatility  of the joining processes to meet changing requirements. Novel methods and process adaptations are being investigated here.

Furthermore, ultrasonic-assisted forming and the development of hybrid components and processes are other important research areas. In particular, combining additive manufacturing and forming technology opens up new possibilities for producing complex and functionally optimized components by leveraging the advantages of both methods. Digitalization also plays a role by integrating data-driven approaches to enable efficient manufacturing.

The main research questions include developing a fundamental understanding of process mechanisms, identifying and implementing innovative manufacturing processes, and specifically improving existing methods. This includes systematically investigating process limits, expanding them through new technologies, and applying findings to industrial applications.
